Why is my puppy aggressive and not eating? Are these issues linked?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Cocker Spaniel | Male | unneutered | 8 months and 1 day old | 20 lbs

I have a new puppy to me and he is 8 month old cocker spainel. After playing with another dog became very agressive. He began only growling at girls - beside his owners and other men. How do I stop this behavior and socialize with people and animals. Also, he got sick this morning and now will not eat or drink his food. He only put his nose in the bowl like he is going to eat it but then just wipes his nose? Are these two thing related?

These are not really related. With his aggression that you are noticing I would recommend first neutering him. I would also recommend a trainer to work with him and you. The trainer should be able to identify triggers. With regards to him not eating and getting sick. The most common reasons are them getting into something they were not supposed to. If he is still not eating tonight or tomorrow morning I would bring him to a veterinarian. I would recommend feeding boiled chicken and white rice also. A one time vomit isn't something too concerning. This becomes an emergency when they continually vomit, have diarrhea with vomiting, have blood in either, lethargic and on top of everything not eating. I hope Chip feels better soon and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
