How to get my cat with pancreatitis to eat and drink after vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 1 year and 2 months old | 7 lbs

My cat was diagnosed with pancreatitis and went to the vet on November 26 Monday night she spent the night on an IV and came home Tuesday morning but now she will not eat. She was given a pain medication shot and medicine by shot from the doctor. She always loves to eat but now she shows no interest in her food and just stands over her water as if she is contemplating on drinking it. How can I get my cat to eat her prescribed easy to digest wet food and how can I get her to drink water?

Poor Luna ! She is probably feeling still quite nauseous.. as it can take a few days for pancreatitis to improve. You can encourage her to eat by adding some tuna water to the low fat food, and warming it up a little, and offering it by hand. I would not leave food down for long periods of time, as it might get dry and even less palatable. If still not eating I would not leave her until tomorrow, I would have her checked over as she might need more time on the fluids and intravenous medications. Hope this helps !
