Hey I have a 7 month old Doberman mastiff mix who seems to have hypersensitive anal glands that release almost every night when she’s relaxed/sleeping on the couch with us.. when I start to smell it I put her out side.. sometimes it’s too late and she has leaked on the couch... I let her back after about 30 mins and she no longer smells even if she hadn’t leaked yet! Her glands never seem full or impacted just release when they shouldn’t.. what should I do?

There is very little you can do except feed her pumpkin with her meals so the glands get expressed more as the stool gets more voluminous. Take her out often to poop. There is also a supplement called Glandex which may help. Unfortunately anal gland secretions always smell bad to humans, while they smell heavenly to dogs. It is the dog's business card so to speak which he leaves behind wherever he poops. You may want to discuss this with your vet who can examine the anal sacs and may be able to instill and antibiotic which could kill the smell producing bacteria and enable others with a different, maybe less vile, smell to settle in the anal sacs.
