My cat has a fever, isn't eating, and is weak. What can I do now?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 2 years and 7 months old

Hello, My cat has recently lost little weight and this morning she was reluctant to eat, also her body temperature was quite high, but she is reacting to everything, also she looks a little weak.Read from the internet and it says that she may have flu and may need antibiotics, however I would like to have an expert’s advice to better understand what’s wrong with her. Is it flu? What can I do for her, like now, as veterinary service is currently unavailable. Thanks in advance.

A viral infection can cause an increase in temperature (fever) and lethargy. Upper respiratory infections like cat flu usually will also cause sneezing, nasal discharge and eye discharge. There are many other infections that could cause fever and lethargy as well. Antibiotics are also only necessary if there is a secondary bacterial infection. I think your first step will be to have a veterinarian examine your cat once they are available and determine what might be causing her illness. Until then I would recommend trying to encourage her to eat by offering canned foods and making sure she has plenty of water available.
