My puppy has black spots on his skin. Is this normal or concerning?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | unneutered | 6 months and 23 days old | 3.2 lbs

My dog has been getting black spots on him, I previously asked this, and they said it was skin pigmentation but I'm not to sure, but is this a cause for concern?

This appears to be normal skin pigmentation. There are some diseases that can cause skin pigmentation like that and since your dog is very young it is unlikely that he is suffering from those: Skin cancer (can be ruled out with a skin biopsy), hypothyroidism (can be ruled out with a blood test), and Acanthosis nigritans (Hyperpigmentation). But as I said, this looks like normal pigmentation. THere is no way to diagnose this from a photo, so a veterinary exam will be able to diagnose any problem, if present.
