My cat has a bald spot that keeps coming back. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My male cat (7 years old) suddenly developed this bald spot 3 days ago..A few months back she had a smaller area that also showed the appearance of an apparent small injury in the form of s 1/2 inch cut. I assumed he banged his head running under bed or jumping from under coffee table into couch. He occasionally will bump himself in that way. The spot scabbed and was gone. This new bald spot is in the exact place that was and is a little bigger this time. No effects eating Or actions.( cortisone)

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This could be due to ringworm. This could also be just a focal skin bacterial infection, among other possibilities. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check for these possibilities and treat accordingly. Ringworm can be transmitted to humans so just in case this is what is going on with him, wear gloves when handling this lesion. Good luck and best wishes!
