Should I worry about dark brown crust on my female parakeet's cere?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Parakeet | Female | unspayed | 3 years and 9 months old | 1lb

I've had 2 parakeets for 3yrs now...1 green and 1 blue. My green parakeet has some sort of dark brown crust on her cere. I didn't notice this when I bought her so I'm guessing it developed over time. My blue bird has a white smooth cere. Is the crust on her cere something I should be concerned with (dangerous?). If unnatural, is there a home remedy for this? Or is it something that has to be handled by a Vet. Please inform me as to what this is and if there's anything that can be done about it.

Most likely this is a hormonal related change that is sometimes seen in female parakeets. As long as she is otherwise acting normally and the dry area doesn't start to grow/increase in size I would not be concerned.
