My dog is lethargic, drooling, red eyes, and won't eat. What's wrong?

Hello, I have an 8 year old Italian pointer that has never been sick. Ever. Tonight, we noticed she is lethargic and drooling. She has pendulous lips and drooling is not uncommon, but this is increased. Her eyes are glassy, red and runny. Her nose is dry and the top of her head feels warm to me. Her gums look a bright, healthy pink. She can get up and go out to the bathroom. Oh, and she wouldn't eat tonight and refused her treats. I'm not sure of her water consumption. Should I worry?

Drooling is often a sign of nausea. It sounds as Nica is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking her to the vet the first chance you get, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an anti nausea injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better. if the vet thinks it is more serious she will need a blood test and possibly an ultrasound in order to find out what is wrong.
