My senior cat is constipated. Will prescription food & Metamucil help?

My cat is 8 yrs old. I’ve noticed he is nit pooping. Took to vet they took x Ray. Had to put him to sleep and go in and clean him out best they could. They say he needs a prescription type cat food. I was wondering is that going to help?? Is there more I can do ?? I read some where about giving him Metamucil? Any ideals to help other than just the food ?? Thanks Allen. Hello, I am sorry to hear about Trucker. Your veterinarian is correct that a diet can be helpful in managing constipation in cats. However, sometimes a diet is not enough. Additional medications such as Metamucil, miralax, or a medication called lactulose need to be added.
