My dog humps his blanket. Is this normal, or should I intervene?

Pet's info: Dog | Maltese | Male | unneutered | 10 lbs

I am pet sitting for a relative. I noticed the 1 yr old male dog rubbing up on his blanket as a sex act. I yelled for him to stop. The next day I needed to clean a floor and had him in his cabin during that. I noticed him doing it again except I didn't stop him. Is that behaviour ok for dogs or should I stop him and mention it to his owner?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It is completely normal for an in-tact dog (male or female) to hump objects. Many animals do this frequently throughout the day. Blankets, pillows, and stuffed animals are common targets. You can tell the owner if you wish but it is not something you can really stop unless he gets neutered. Best wishes to you and Snowind!
