My puppy's paws are itchy and smelly with skin spots. Is it allergies?

Hello, I've got a 5 month old Lab who has purple/dark skin on the knuckles of each paw, they seem to be itchy and he constantly wants to lick them. I've put a cone on him and changed his diet to a single protein, and it has been 2 weeks and he has not improved yet. His paws have a weird smell to them and his eye lids tend to be reddish at times. Lastly he has developed strange looking black spots on his stomach near his genitals. Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | unneutered | 5 months and 6 days old | 55 lbs

Poor Roco. It sounds like he most likely has allergies. It may be to the protein in the food, or environmental allergens, or a combination. It sounds like you are on the right track to try to change the protein, but it may be that he needs a prescription diet from your veterinarian. It may also be that he has a yeast infection on top of allergies. The black spots most likely are areas of hyperpigmentation from the allergies. I would recommend you speak w your veterinarian about allergies, an allergy diet, and doing some skin testing. Good luck
