My dog is potty trained but still pees the bed while sleeping. Why?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Boxer | Female | unspayed | 8 months and 19 days old | 25 lbs

Grace is a healthy and playful Boxer no accidents, well potty trained no trouble on peeing whatsoever but whenever she drinks too much water she wets her bed whilst asleep. I always wake her up at midnight for pee, still sometimes she pees her bed. What could possibly be the reason?

She relaxes so well while asleep (because she feels safe) that the bladder sphincter also relaxes and then she leaks. You can try taking her out at 9pm and again at midnight, and if that does not work, again at three in the morning. Over time she should be able to hold the urine through the night.
