Why is my 5-month-old puppy's penis discharging yellow and crusty?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | unneutered | 4 months and 28 days old | 80 lbs

I have a German Shepherd puppy, 5 months old and there is this yellow fluid with the consistency of pus coming from his prepuce. I know some yellowish fluid is normal but the build up seems to be a lot and it is getting crusty.

This could be excessive smegma or an infection of the prepuce. Since there is more than usual, especially for such a young puppy, I suggest you have him seen by your vet for an exam. It may be nothing, but it could be an infection that needs flushing of the prepuce and/or some antibiotic ointment.
