Hi tony is starting to get his appetite back eating his senior diet after a couple weeks of testing new kidney foods (and he liked none of them) my vet wants me to start an appetite stimulant next week to help him eat a kidney diet. Is this ok even tho he’s beginning to get an appetite back? Also I’d like to confirm it’s ok to take an appetite stimulant with his amlodipine, methimazole and tumil K meds?

Most appetite stimulants are ok with those medications, but I would have your vet double check for any drug interactions. If you get the medications from a human pharmacy, the pharmacist can also check for interactions. Appetite stimulants are safe even if the appetite is just coming back. They can be discontinued once the appetite is fully back.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Yes you can use an appetite stimulant to get him to eat the kidney diet or SLOWLY add the kidney food in to the food he likes. So overtime he gets used to it. There are other brands of prescription kidney diets as well to try. Good luck!
