Why does my dog have small, hard bumps lifting his fur?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Boston Terrier | Male | neutered | 1 year and 6 months old | 20 lbs

I uploaded pictures although it’s difficult to see the bumps. They are small and hard, lifting up his fur slightly.

This could be caused by flea bites (and subsequent flea allergy), another type of allergy or a bacterial or fungal skin infection. I recommend you schedule an appointment with your veterinarian for an exam. Depending on the diagnosis your vet may want to prescribe an antibacterial/antifungal shampoo, prescription antibiotics, or ointment.
