How to transition 9-week-old kittens from expensive wet to dry food?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My cat died. Two months before she died, she had given birth to two kittens, Pepsi and Sprite. Now they are 9 weeks old, but they are still eating wet food. It's expensive. How do I properly introduce them to hard food, do they still need to eat wet food, should I mix wet food and dry food, or do I need to just give them hard food? Please respond soon. Thank you

I'm very sorry your cat died! How sad for you! Whenever there is a change in diet, it should be done slowly to avoid GI upset. Start by mixing in the dry food with the canned food, about a 75/25% (canned/dry) ratio. Feed that for a couple of days, then do a 50/50% ratio. Again feed for another couple of days before going to a 25/75% ratio. After you have fed that for a couple of days, you can give them 100% dry food. I hope this helps!

Great question! You can start by mixing together the canned food and dry food, and over the course of a few weeks, increase the amount of dry food and decrease the amount of canned food until they are eating the dry food only. I hope this helps!
