My dog's eye is watery, squinting, and cloudy. What's wrong?

We have noticed that on and off for about a month Betty’s right eye has been really watery and she looks like she is squinting. We touch the area and it doesn’t seem like it hurts. When we flash a light on it it looks like it has a tiny cloud in one section of the eye. Is this something we need to be worried about?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If she is squinting and there is discharge then I would be concerned about the eye. Squinting is a sign of pain. I recommend taking Betty to the vet so they can look at the eye up close. They may need to put a special drop on the eye to look for a scratch or test the pressure inside the eye. Once they know what’s going on, they can get her medications to improve her comfort level. Good luck and kisses to Betty!

He could have a corneal ulcer, scratch, or an infection. Since he is squinting, it must be painful and he should be examined by a vet to determine the cause. Your vet can stain his corneal to look for an ulcer or scratch and then prescribe medications to treat the problem. Hope he gets better soon!
