My cat's eye is swollen, sore, and leaking. Does he need a vet?

My cats eye is puffy and swelled shut and has stuff leaking out of it. He won't let me touch him, it appears very sore? Is there something I can do for him here or does this require a vet visit? Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 8 lbs
