My spayed cat pulled stitches, no redness or discharge. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed

My cat has been spayed this past Saturday and seems absolutely fine but has pulled 1 or 2 of her sutures. There’s no redness that I can tell or discharge, what should I do?

Just make sure you do not see any opening of the incision, increased redness, bleeding, or discharge. If not, and the incision remains closed, you can closely monitor. If open, or any of the signs above, she may need the incision closed again or cultured for infection. Does she have an e collar on? If not she needs to wear one until the sutures come out to prevent further issues. If she is wearing one, and can reach around it, she will need a longer one (or if its a soft collar she will need a firm collar). I hope this helps and thank you for using Petcaoch!
