Why is my cat's nose suddenly sore and inflamed between nostrils?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 5 years and 11 months old | 11 lbs

Hi my cat has a sore inflamed nose between her nostrils, it seems to have come up quite suddenly as I don't think it was there last night. She is still eating and drinking ok but doesn't like it being touched.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Sukie! It looks as though that area may be ulcerated. This can commonly occur with feline calici viral infections. It may run it's course but if she stops eating or is lethargic she should see a Vet to check for ulcers in the mouth or a fever. Sometimes antibiotics are needed if secondary bacterial infections occur. I hope this helps and I wish Sukie a speedy recovery!
