Why is my puppy throwing up brown vomit repeatedly? Is it serious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 5 months and 27 days old | 26 lbs

My puppy threw up a lot last night and it was brown (not liquidy) and ate breakfast this morning but threw that up as wel. He likes to eat fast and play hard so could he have just gotten to excited this morning? And I don’t know why he threw up last night.

I’m sorry Reus isn’t feeling himself. If it was an isolated episode of vomiting, that could definitely be from eating and then playing hard right after. However, given that he vomited a lot last night and then couldn’t hold his breakfast down I worry more could be going on. Considerations include stomach upset from eating something he shouldn’t, ingesting a toy or other object that is stuck in the stomach or intestine, or even some viruses such as parvo (if he isn’t vaccinated). If he continues to vomit, isn’t able to keep water down, or refuses to eat I would have him evaluated by a veterinarian. If he has good energy and does not have further vomiting episodes today, then I would offer him a small meal of very bland white chicken meat and white rice this evening (rather than his regular food) to see if he is able to keep that down. I hope he s feeling better very soon!
