My cat isn't eating and losing weight fast. What could be wrong?

I have a male cat he is not eating and loosing weight fast his weight has dropped in half over the last 3 weeks and not sure what is wrong and I can't afford to bring him to a vet. Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 6 years and 6 months old | 30 lbs

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. First off, I would ensure he is eating enough food. If you are feeding adequate amounts of food and he is still not gaining weight, I would be concerned about a metabolic / endocrine disease such as hyperthyroidism or another systemic illness / infection. Unfortunately, if you are feeding him adequate calories and he is still not gaining weight, the only recommendation I can make would be to have his blood tested to see if he has hyperthyroidism or some other systemic disease.
