My guinea pig is skinny and bony. Could his cage mate be the problem?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Unknown - Small Animal | Male | 1 month and 8 days old

Why is my guinea pig Jasper, skinnier than my other guinea pig, Pepsi. I’ve been making sure that he’s been eating enough and drinking enough, but today I just noticed that I could feel his bones but I just don’t understand, could it be that Pepsi is pushing him away every time he wants to eat or drink or could it be something else??

I am sorry to hear about your concern for Jasper. It is possible that the other guinea pig is eating more food/pushing Jasper away. We also worry about possible dental issues causing difficult eating. If you feel Jasper is underweight then I would recommend having a vet examine him. They can check is body condition to decide if he is truly underweight and can check his teeth to see if they are overgrown/aligned poorly. If there are not problems with the teeth then you may need to feed the guinea pigs separately to be sure that Jasper is getting enough to eat!
