Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 1 year and 2 months old | 26 lbs
My dog had an issue regarding flees for more than 3 months , we used to wash him with a shampoo but it only lasted 2 days and flees would attack him again . We thought after all the thourough cleaning and room cleanse would remove fleas after a while . But after 3 months we had to medically get flee treatment from a vet . My question is : he’s got so many bad rashes and red spots on his body and could not stop scratching . How to sooth his itchy ness or reduce or eliminate his scratching .

The only way to help your dog is to make sure there are absolutely no fleas that can bite him as that can cause the allergy. Besides the flea medication from the vet you need to do the following: Unfortunately fleas only hop on the body of your pet when they want to feed, then they hop off again and stay in your pet's environment. So you need to treat all pets in the household as well as the environment (which contains the fleas, their eggs and larvae). Flea treatment: 1) Get some flea medication such as a Flea spray or a spot on from a pet shop or your veterinarian and apply monthly 2) get flea powder, put some in your vacuum cleaner bag and vacuum your house and furniture and also non-carpeted areas frequently to remove flea larvae and eggs which live off house dust., Dispose of the bag in the trash outside. Hot-wash all the pet's bedding, If you do this diligently for a few months you will get rid of the fleas. Flea products: Spot-ons and/or chews Advantage, Advantix Advantage Multi (Advocate in the UK) Frontline (ticks as well) Bravecto spot on (ticks as well) - for cats, in tablet form for dogs Simparica, Nexgard Revolution (stronghold in the UK) Tablets: comfortis (will only kill fleas once) Collar: Seresto (ticks as well) Make sure to regularly use flea preventinve according to the individual flea prevention medicine's instructions (once a month or every several months, respectively).

You can bathe Sweetlips in sudsy Dawn dish soap water which will remove the fleas or use a flea comb to comb them out, and dip the comb in sudsy water. Or get a Comfortis tablet from your vet which will kill all the fleas on your dog, but has no preventative action and will only work once. However, for every flea on your dog, there are 10 more in his environment. So you will have to do the following: 1) Get some flea medication such as a Flea spray or a spot on from a pet shop or your veterinarian and apply monthly Make sure it is a different one from the one you used last on Sweetlips. Make sure all other animals in your house are treated for fleas. 2) get flea powder, put some in your vacuum cleaner bag and vacuum your entire house and furniture and also non-carpeted areas frequently to remove flea larvae which live off house dust. Dispose of the bag in the trash outside. Hot-wash all the pets' bedding, If you do this diligently for a few months you will get rid of the fleas. Flea products: Spot-ons: Advantage, Advantix Advantage Multi Frontline (ticks as well) Revolution (stronghold in the UK) Tablets: Comfortis (will only kill fleas once) Bravecto (ticks as well) in tablet form for dogs Collar: Seresto (ticks as well) House spray: Indoorex

If you are noticing continued problems with fleas despite treatment every month, it's possible the fleas have developed an immunity to the current product. I recommend switching the products. Tops products for dogs are oral products such as Simparica and Nexgard. Top products for cats are topicals such as Revolution and Cheristan. There is also an oral product called Comfortis that both dogs and cats can take. You will need to switch all the pets over to a good flea product. Make sure to discuss these products with your veterinarian first. These products are generally safe for all pets but there are some conditions which are contraindicated for the oral products. C;leaning up and treating the house and yard will also help but it will not clear all the fleas. The main control is making sure the pets are on good products. This is what will ultimately stop the infestation. Also remember every female fleas lays about 50 eggs a day and it could take up to 6 months before the eggs hatch. Therefore, you will need to treat for at least 6 months. Best of luck and please feel free to post any additional questions.
