My 8-month-old puppy walks 2 miles. When can we go further or hike?

Jack is 8 months old and we take regular walks. To date the furthest he’s gone is about 2 miles. How far is ‘safe’ for a pup his wage, when can I increase walk length, and when can I start including him in more vigorous activities like hikes and off trail walking?

If he can walk 2 miles with you, you can try more vigorous exercise. Begin with short hikes and watch for lameness or exercise intolerance. Being a smaller dog, you can carry him to give him a break when needed.
