My dog's eyes are red, cloudy overnight. Is he losing his vision?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Miniature Schnauzer | Male | neutered | 8 years old | 16 lbs

He has what looks like cataracts in both eyes but it started in one eye and then it happened to the other one over night. Also the whites of his eyes are red and he seems to be almost completely blind

Cataracts don't tend to form over night. More likely this white appearance is due to a change to the cornea (outer layer of the eye). This could be due to an infection of the cornea, or of the inside of the eye. There could also be a problem like glaucoma that is causing inflammation in the eye. Either way, this is a problem that needs to be evaluated and treated by a veterinarian as soon as possible, or he could have serious complications and/or lose his vision. I reccomend having him seen by a vet in the next 24 hours. I hope that helps and Pierre gets better soon.
