Are human allergy eye drops safe for my dog's seasonal eye issues?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | spayed

My dogs eyes gets yellow runny stuff during certain times of the year. The vet said allergies. The eye drops are expensive. Can I just use human allergy eye drops?

Hi and thanks for posting. While sterile saline drops can be safely used in dogs, other medicated eye drops found over the counter are not and should be avoided. Also there are certain eye medications such as steroidal drops or antibiotic drops that may be recommended from your veterinarian to use for Sadie that are not available over the counter and may only be prescribed through your veterinarian. Sterile saline, while safe, may not be what your veterinarian has recommended for Sadie's allergies. I hope this helps and thanks again for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!
