Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 9 lbs

We left the house for a few hours visiting friends. We have 2 cats. When we came home one of my cats had discharge around his eye. He has a scratch across his eye. No vet is open on Sunday near me. What should I do?

If there's an option for an emergency clinic, I'd recommend going there. If not, get a cone/e-collar from the pet store and have him wear that 24/7 until he gets to the vet on Monday, keep the area around the eye clean with just a damp cloth a few times a day, and apply over the counter lucubrating eye drops (GenTeal Severe is best) 4 times a day (or at much as he'll let you). Feel better soon Gizmo!

This could represent an emergency as it could have a corneal ulcer and the risk of a perforated eye is definitively there. I would strongly recommend a check up (ECC clinic or call your normal vet). Lubrication otherwise is needed and a buster collar would be very useful to avoid any scratching.
