My dog's eye is bloodshot after a cat attack. What should I do now?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Miniature Pinscher | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 10 months old | 13 lbs

My dog got attacked by a cat this morning and I noticed that he had a few scratches on his face. One of his eyes looks like it has blood on the white part if his eye. It looks bloodshot. It doesn't hurt him nor is he sensitive to light. What can I do?

Hi and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sorry to hear B got into a cat fight this morning and was scratched on the face. If the cat scratched his eye, this could be causing the bloodshot appearance. Scratches to the eye can result in corneal injury which can lead to eye infections. I would recommend B see his veterinarian soon for an exam and staining of the eyes to make sure no scratches to his cornea where endured. If needed, B may go home with antibiotics or other medications as needed for his eye if it appears infected to his veterinarian. I hope this helps!
