Why is my dog straining to pee and not eating? What's wrong?

I am sorry to hear about your dog. I would recommend getting him/her to a veterinarian as soon as possible if they are unable to urinate. There are a variety of causes for these symptoms including a bad urinary tract infection (if pet is straining but small amounts are coming out regularly), bladder stones, tumors of the bladder, and enlarged prostate in male dogs. The vet will examine your dog and may try to get a urine sample to test and will likely recommend an x-ray. Treatment will depend on their findings.
