My 1 year old yorkie has been reverse sneezing on and off for the past 12 hours. It started at around 10 pm last night when he was barking at the neighbors. I know what reverse sneezing is but I don’t know why he’s been doing it for so long. I stayed up from 12-5 am to monitor his breathing and luckily he’s gotten a little better but now (10:30am) he reverse sneezes once every 45 minutes (compared to once every 5 minutes last night) he attempted to eat but coughed at his food

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. Reverse sneezing can be caused by irritation or foreign material at the back of the throat. If the reverse sneezing has calmed down and is lessening I would monitor for another 12-24 hours. If it does not entirely resolve or it worsens, I would recommend having Teddy examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns and I would be more than happy to help you further.
