Pet's info: Cat | Siamese | Male | neutered | 8 lbs
My Luna who is around a year old and neutered has suddenly begun peeing in empty cardboard box. I haven’t changed his litter but I did buy a new litter box which is a different size and shape and type than his previous. The box is being used but I have two cats so I’m not sure who is using it. Could there be a connection between the new litter box and inappropriate elimination?

Luna is so handsome! It definitely could be the litterbox change or any other change in your house. Cats are very sensitive critters. The easist thing to try is to bring back the old box in addition to the new one. If he starts using it there is your answer. It may not be as simple as that though. Is the new box in a new spot? Sometimes cats don't like it moved either. A good rule of thumb to decrease stress is 1 box per cat and 1 extra. Cats also can suffer from FLUTD, feline lower urinary tract disorder which could cause similar symptoms. It is unknown exactly what triggers this but stress is thought to play a role. Especially with male cats it is important to make sure they are not having trouble urinating as urinary obstruction can occur. I have attached a link that can be informative for indoor cat owners. I hope this helps and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! indoorpet.osu.edu/cats
