Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shiba Inu | Male | unneutered | 9 months and 7 days old | 22 lbs

My dog came home from the sitter with diarrhea. He was there for a week. Says he ate a lizard the day before we picked him up. He has no other symptons. The diarrhea started on Saturday morning. I picked him up Saturday afternoon. As of Tuesday, I started him on chicken and rice and no changes. He is in good spirits and no other symptons. Help!!

I'm sorry Kedo is having some diarrhea! But I am glad to hear he is not having any other symptoms. If the chicken and rice diet alone are not helping, you can try adding a probiotic such as Fortiflora. If you can't find that brand (its made by Purina), you can usually find some type of dog probiotic at PetCo or any pet store. If after 2-3 days of a probiotic and chicken and rice you still aren't seeing any improvement, take him to the vet. He may need a prescription medication to get his stools back to normal. You CAN try some Imodium, however I would not do this for more than 1 or 2 doses as you can end up with a constipated pup, and it doesn't address the underlying cause of the diarrhea. See the following article for info and dosing. https://www.petcoach.co/canigive/dog/imodium/ I hope that helps you!

Hi and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I am sorry Kedo is having diarrhea! Since it has been goin on for so long, I would recommend taking him to see a veterinarian. They will do a full examination and determine if Kedo needs additional testing like a fecal test for intestinal parasites (which he could have picked up from the lizard) or an xray of his abdomen. The vet will also decide what treatments may be necessary, like anti-diarrheal medication. Good luck!
