My cat's claw is split and bleeding. Can I wait until tomorrow?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My cat has been in a fight and his claw has been damaged. It has some blood. I have cleaned it up but looks like it is split. Will he be OK if I take him to a vet tomorrow. I will clean it in the morning before work as well.

Hello! Most toenail injuries will be fine to wait a day to be taken to the vet. If you'd like to resubmit your question with a close up, in focus photo of the wound, I'll be able to better assess it though to be sure! :) When cleaning it for now, just use warm water or saline as it will be the least painful for him. I hope this is helpful! Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!
