My dog threw up, now distant & not eating. Could it be pancreatitis?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Rat Terrier | Female | spayed | 9 years and 2 months old | 20 lbs

Tipsy threw up this morning but has not thrown up in 12+ hours. She has been very distant today, sleeping under the stairs or the table where we can’t really get to her easily. She had pancreatitis in the past and I’m concerned by her behavior. She seems like she is in pain or is just feeling awful but I don’t know if we should just try and let it pass since she hasn’t thrown up in a while. She did not eat much today either. Drinking normal. Any suggestions??

I am so sorry to hear about Tipsy! Given her history of pancreatitis I would be concerned with this behavior that she could be having another episode. I would recommend bringing her in to the vet tomorrow if she is still acting this way. If she starts vomiting again tonight, is acting very painful or going down into a prayer position (with front legs down and hind end up in the air), has pale gums, is unable to rest/be comfortable, or becomes very weak/lethargic then a trip to the emergency vet is recommended.
