What Ryder has done is effectively trained you to feed him what he wants. Table food, although fine as an occasional treat, is not healthy nor balanced nutritionally for dogs. You'll need to break him of this habit. Choose a good quality dog food that he has eaten and stick with it. Switching foods frequently can lead to gastrointestinal upset and may reinforce a picky eater. Dogs thrive on routine, so feed Ryder at the same time(s) daily. Prepare his food and leave it down for 20-30 minutes before picking it up whether he has eaten or not. Repeat this at the next mealtime. Do not offer any food or treats between meals. You will need to be firm and consistent. Do not worry, he will not starve. He will eat when he gets hungry and realizes there will be no table food. You can mix in some warm water or a teaspoon of baby food into his kibble to stimulate his appetite.
