Hi, My boarder terrier has had diarrhoea and bad wind for 2 weeks now. The gas is constant, around every 5 or ten minutes. It gradually increased over the past few weeks and then the beginning of last week the diarrhoea began. We haven't changed her diet and she is still drinking plenty although she does seem a little off. Thanks

Hello! Im sorry to hear that Izzy is having some issues. There are a number of possible causes for the symptoms you describe, including enteritis or colitis (inflammation of the intestine or colon), a bacterial imbalance in the gut, intestinal parasites, inflammatory bowel disease, and even cancer. It would be best to take Izzy to the vet for an exam. Your vet may recommend testing the stool for parasites and or bacteria, some blood tests and/or some X-rays to further evaluate. An abdominal ultrasound (a sonogram of the belly) may also be recommended. The treatment will depend on what the findings are. If Izzy is still eating, is not vomiting, and her energy is good, you can try feeding her a bland diet of plain, cooked chicken and white rice, and adding in a canine probiotic such as FortiFlora, Be aware that the homemade bland diet I just described is NOT intended to be fed long term. If you aren't seeing any improvement after 2-3 days, be sure to get her in to the vet. If that does help; gradually change from the chicken/rice diet back to her regular food, and continue the probiotic indefinitely. I hope that helps! Thanks for asking Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!
