Why are my newborn kitten's eyes open at only a few days old?

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 7 days old

His eyes are slightly open and he is only a few days old is that too soon i have no idea what to do

Hi there and thank you for your inquiry. George is a very lucky kitten to have such a concerned owner! The normal amount of time it should take a kitten to open their eyes after birth varies depending upon breed, size, physiology, etc. But the general rule of thumb is that they should be opening their eyes anywhere between five days to 10 days after birth. If they start opening their eyes earlier than this, I recommend taking the kids to a veterinarian to have a complete ophthalmic examination performed to make certain that everything is OK.
