My dog is limping and aggressive when I touch his paw. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 9 months and 20 days old | 60 lbs

I noticed my dog limping today. It seems his front left paw is bothering him. He also gets aggressive when I reach for is collar area. He still eats and drinks his normal amount and doesn’t wimper. He’s just favoring his right paw. I’m not sure what could be wrong.

It sounds like Kreed has injured himself somehow, and it could be that he has a foreign body in his paw (like a grass seed or foxtail), could have a cut on it, or could have strained or torn a ligament. I would avoid reaching for his collar area for now. I also recommend resting him for the next 48 hours. No running, jumping, or playing. Take him out to toilet on a lead only, and bring him right back in when he's done. If he still appears painful after this time, then I would take him into the vet for an exam. The vet can diagnose where the pain is coming from, and can dictate a treatment plan for it. He may also benefit from some pain medications, which the vet can prescribe. Please do not give him any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. Best of luck, I hope this helps!
