Why is my dog drooling, gagging, eating grass, and acting lethargic?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Just today I noticed my dog has been constantly dripping saliva, licking and swallowing. He has also been gagging and spits out saliva I think it is ? But he’s also been wanting to eat grass and has ate grass and gags it out. He’s been more calm than usual

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! These are signs usually seen with nausea. Nausea can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check for these possibilities and others depending on the findings on exam. Treatment would be based on findings. Good luck and have a great day! Hoping for a speedy recovery!
