My dog stopped prednisone and is suddenly vomiting and lethargic. ER?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund miniature | Male | neutered | 16 lbs

Small Daschund has been on prednisone for a week. She stopped taking it tuesday and had a mild upset stomach, but is now lethargic and has puked twice in the past few hours. Do you think this requires an ER visit? I will be talking with my vet about not tapering her off as well.

Considering the presence of lethargy, associated with the vomiting episodes I would recommend an immediate check up. Yes ideally a gradual reduction in prednisone dosage gives adrenal glands time to resume their normal function.
