My dog cries and struggles to get up. Is it hip or back pain?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Male | neutered | 4 years and 1 month old | 55 lbs

My 4yr old pitbull lucky is different in that he wags his tail only up and down like a pump he is the runt and has done this since he was born... he's having some serious pain either in his hips or spine and he cries mainly in the morning and all night last night. Having a hard time getting up and down. It's worrying me very much.

Lucky may be feeling some pain, or may have a deformity or issue with his back, especially if he wags his tail differently. I would bring him into the vet to have some X-rays taken of his back to check for any problems or inflammation that could be causing his pain and soreness. Your vet can also recommend medications to help with inflammation, and pain, in addition to supplements such as glucosamine or fish oil which can help with joint pain and inflammation as well.
