My senior dog is very sick. How do I know when to let him go?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 15 lbs

My dog is very sick vet said autoimmune disease or lukiema. Will need massive amounts of care which may do nothing. Due to him being 10 and showing hip problems l decided to let him pass. He hasn’t eaten but does not appear to be in pain just sleeps 90% of day very torn on what to do. Hoped he would pass quietly in his own bed

Please arrange a euthanasia appointment for him. It is not appropriate to leave a terminally ill pet to die slowly unless he is well enough to maintain a normal appetite, thirst and independent toileting
