Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | spayed | 4 years and 3 months old | 10 lbs

Hi I have a 5 year old Chihuahua and last 2 days she’s been pooping blood but I’ve taken her to the vet for this in the past & the vet prescribed a laxative and she was ok for a good while but now she’s got blood again. She’s up to date on all her shots so I don’t think it could be a parasite what should I do to stop the bleeding? She’s acting normal playful and eating & drinking normal

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Belle! Blood in the stool indicates inflammation in the colon. Possible causes are: intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial infections, she ate something gross outside upsetting her GI tract, pancreatitis, reaction or a new food/treat/table food or a food allergy/intolerance. There is no fast way to stop the blood expect time. I would feed her a bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger with rice. Feed 1 cup per 20 lbs per day until 2 normal stools. You can also start a probiotic like Purina Fortiflora. If she isn't improving in a few days she should be seen by your Vet for an exam and medications. I wish Belle the best!
