My dog has skin tags. What are they and how can I remove them safely?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | 11 years and 4 months old | 52 lbs

I’m housesitting and one of the dogs I’m taking care of has these things on her... im pretty sure they’re skin tags but her owners don’t really take care of her because she is old. Is there a way to safely get rid of them?

Hi there. It's difficult to tell exactly what this is from the photo, but it looks like a fairly large skin growth of some kind. It may very well be benign, but it would be a good idea for them to have it checked by a vet. Masses like this can be surgically removed by your veterinarian, but there is no way to safely or humanely remove them yourself at home.
