My cat has red, goopy eyes. What should I do or when to see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 7 months and 9 days old | 40 lbs

We just moved and are getting used to a new place. Routines are all mixed up, there is a new cat we are staying with temporarily, and he accidentally got a little viegar near his eye. That being said this is day two of slightly redder eyes and a little goop. Should I wait a few days to see if he is adjusting or take him in?

I wouldn't be overly worried if the discharge isn't yellow or green and he isn't squinting his eye. If so, I would take him immediately to a vet. If not, I would put some artificial tear drops in his eyes three times per day and give him benadryl twice a day to see if this helps. If not, I would take him in to see your vet. I hope this helps! https://www.petcoach.co/canigive/dog/benadryl/#
