Why does my dog have moist bumps on her back with skin peeling?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Papillon | Female | spayed | 7 years and 7 months old | 25 lbs

My dog developed 2 bumps on her back 2-3 days ago and today when I checked them and pushed the little bit of hair around that was on top of each bump the hair and skin came off effortlessly and she now has 2 small areas that are missing the top layer of skin and are moist. I put polysporin on them once again, but I’m concerned about what could be causing this? and what to do?

That discharge and opening with the hair falling out indicates an infection. This may be from a bite or an allergy. I would have your vet check the area. IF there is a deeper infection under the skin causing an abscess then it will need to be open and flushed and given antibiotics to clear it. Keep the area clean with soap and water until you get her seen
