How often should my 7-week-old kitten poop and pee? Is it normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | unspayed | 1 month and 18 days old | 2 lbs

So she is 7.5 weeks old. We just got her 4 days ago. She was eating, peeing and sleeping a lot for the 1st 3 days but no pooping. But she pooped (alot) once last night. And tried to poop again but couldn't. She is playing, eating, sleeping and peeing good. Should I worry? BTW I'm feeding her formula and wet food w/dry food in it. She wont eat dry by itself. How many times should Skyler be pooping and peeing a day? Help us please. Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Skyler is super cute! I would feed her just canned kitten food. Stop the formula, there is no need for that at almost 8 weeks. Kittens should defecate twice daily and probably urinate double that amount. Feed canned food for the next week then slowly try to add dry in. Watch the straining and for diarrhea. She should be seeing a vet soon for her first exam, deworming and vaccine. Bring a stool sample. The vaccines should be started around 7-8 weeks of age. Good luck!
