Why are my 8-month-old puppy's testicles red, irritated, and painful?

My 8 month old puppy testicles are really irritated . He is in pain when he tries to sit . Yesterday it was a scab and now it’s cherry red,doesn’t let me really examine it. Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 10 months old | 60 lbs

Poor Morty! His scrotum does look very inflamed, potentially secondary to a hot spot or superficial bacterial infection. If his actual testicles seem swollen this could be a sign of an infection or even a testicular torsion. I would recommend seeing your veterinarian- they can palpate the testicles and potentially prescribe medications to help. In the meantime I’d recommend using an e-collar to prevent him from causing further damage by licking.
