Why is my dog lethargic with a tight stomach and no appetite?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | unspayed | 30 lbs

My dog's stomach has been very tight for the past 2 weeks and she has lost much of her endless appetite. She has also been quite lethargic and it's been hard to get her to play (she used to live to play) although she still perks up to go on walks. She is an outdoor dog and it's fairly hot here right now, could the heat have something to do with it?

Poor Josey! I am really concerned about her. She sounds like she could have some bloating or fluid accumulation in her abdomen or pain in her abdomen. The fact that she isn't eating or playing worries me that something more is going on besides just the heat. I would have your vet take a look at her since it has been going on for 2 weeks. Your vet will be able to do a heart worm test, blood work and even x-rays if needed. Your vet will be able to get her started on the proper treatment plan to help her feel better. I hope this helps!
